Explore the stunning landscapes of Morocco on this 4-day itinerary. Day 1 takes you from Marrakech through the High Atlas Mountains, visiting kasbahs and the UNESCO-listed Ait Benhaddou. Day 2 explores Zagora and the Sahara Desert, with a stop at the historic town of Tamgroute. On Day 3, venture through the Iriqui Lake and Foum Zguid, visiting a carpet cooperative in Taznakht. Finally, Day 4 includes a visit to Ait Benhaddou again before returning to Marrakech via the Ounilla Valley and Telouet Kasbah. Immerse yourself in the rich culture and breathtaking scenery of Morocco.
Departure early morning from your riad/hotel in Marrakech and travel through the High Atlas Mountains via the Tichka Pass (2260 m) – the highest road pass in Morocco offering spectacular panoramic views of the mountains and valleys with a snaky road, beautiful landscapes with different colours and the Berber villages along the way. Visit several kasbahs along the way, including Tamnougalte and Ait Benhaddou. A 16th century UNESCO site, Ait Benhaddou is one of the best preserved and most spectacular kasbahs in Morocco. A famous site for Hollywood films, Ait Benhaddou was used for the blockbuster film of 2000, Gladiator. The trip continues through the palm-lined Draa river valley. Arrival to Zagora.
After Breakfast, we will have enough time to visit Zagora and its surroundings especially the Jewish quarter in Amzerou and the palm groves. Afterwards, we continue our trip towards the doorway to Sahara Desert (Mhamid). Along the way, we stop in the the original town of the 16th century dynasty ( Saadian), Tamgroute, to visit an old Coran library and a subterranean kasbah. We arrive to Mhamid where the Draa valley and civilization end. Lunch in a typical Moroccan restaurant. After Lunch we will drive the off Road to Erg Chegaga Desert. Upon arrival you will ride camels to enjoy the sunset. Night and dinner in the camp in the middle of nowhere.
After breakfast, we drive through the natural dried lake of Iriqui and the plains of black stones, we will take again the asphalted road in direction of the small town of Foum Zguid, arrive at Taznakht which is one of the biggest centers of carpets in the kingdom where we will visit a cooperative of Berber carpets made by women of the surrounding villages. Return to Ait Ben Hadou Kasbah, a fortified village of the 11th century where we will spend the night.
After breakfast we will visit the widespread Heritage Site of Ait Benhaddou Kasbah as it has been named by Unesco in 1987. Ait Benhaddou is the World Heritage site that has been utilized as a setting for more than 20 movies incorporating “Gladiator” “Indiana Jones” and “Lawrence of Arabia”. Revel in a stroll to investigate the universal Moroccan style of construction modeling in which the Kasbahs are constructed. We proceed our approach to Marrakesh through the High Atlas Mountains and Tizi n’tichka pass. Soften for lunch up the center of the Atlas Mountains. Drop off at your Marrakech riad.
